Adult Literacy Programs

Programs that provide reading and writing instruction for adults who are unable to read or write at a functional level, with the objective of ensuring that they have the skills necessary to find and keep decent jobs, support their children's education and participate actively in civic life. Some programs interpret literacy more broadly and also help people develop speaking, computation (numeracy/mathematics) and problem solving skills.

 

Services
Deaf Empowerment Program

The Deaf Empowerment Program taught in American Sign Language (ASL) provides deaf and hard of hearing adults the opportunity to upgrade their skills in math, reading, and writing, as well as basic computer and employability skills.

Adult Day School

A program for adults to earn high school credits though 6-week programs using Ontario Secondary School curriculum as per Ministry of Education guidelines.

Literacy and Basic Skills

Literacy and basic skills training, including numeracy, digital, communication, and interpersonal skills. Helps learners prepare for employment, apprenticeship, secondary-school credit, post-secondary education, and greater independence. 

Hamilton Literacy Council

A non-profit organization that provides basic training in reading, writing, math and computer skills to English-speaking adults.

Canadian Hearing Services Education Programs

Offers a range of education programs, workshops, and classes designed to enhance communication, foster independence, and empower Deaf and hard of hearing individuals to achieve their goals by reducing barriers to participation.
