Workshops/Symposiums

Programs that sponsor conferences, symposiums, seminars, workshops and other gatherings in which one or a variety of speakers are brought together to make presentations which address a particular human service topic with the objective of increasing participant awareness of the issues, problems and potential solutions that are facing residents of the community.

 

Services

Offers a variety of programs to allow families of French-speaking immigrants to settle, integrate, and participate in the community of Hamilton. Programs include:

Program offered twice monthly, providing seniors an opportunity to socialize with one another in a safe and secure environment.

Provides topical seminars for seniors, offered throughout Flamborough or virtually. Topics vary, and may include health, nutrition, technology for seniors, safety, estate planning, downsizing, and many more.

Offers free workshops, both in person and online, promoting positive aging and well being.

Topics include:

  • Navigating the Health Care System
  • Positive Aging
  • Transportation (taking the bus, driving a car, riding a bike)

Offers a variety of recorded training videos and educational resources to help prevent elder abuse in Ontario.

Materials cover the following forms of abuse:

  • financial abuse
  • emotional abuse
  • physical abuse
  • sexual abuse
  • neglect

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Canada is a training program designed to enable people to recognize symptoms and provide support in mental health emergencies until professional help can step-in. No mental health experience is necessary.

The goals of the course include:

Offers a variety of services to help disabled or injured workers, and family, friends, and co-workers of workers injured or killed on the job.

Services include:

Children's Aid Society has a speakers' group of front-line child protection workers and supervisors who can be requested to present to local organizations, community groups, and schools about the role of the Society and the public's duty to report.

Offers a variety of supports and services for older adults, including:

Provides home assessments and recommendations at no cost to help seniors remain safe and independent in their homes, and falls prevention education program to both seniors and caregivers.

Safety at Home services include:

A free service offering educational programs designed to raise awareness with regard to gambling, healthy/active living, and making informed decisions

Gives youth access to:

A free six-week workshop that assists participants in living with on-going health conditions. Areas of focus include stress management, making healthier choices, meeting other people living with similar challenges, and building success with manageable goals. A textbook is provided.
