Caregiver Training

Programs that provide training for family members and other informal caregivers which focuses on care-related activities such as medication management, personal care and making the home environment safe and barrier-free as well as on stress management and other techniques to help the caregiver take care of him or herself. The focus of the training is on building the skills and capacity of the caregiver to manage their caregiving role. Some programs include a caregiver assessment, development of an individualized plan that focuses on the caregiver, setting goals and establishing a routine for ongoing support for the caregiver.

 

Services

Programs, services, education and on-going support for individuals with dementia, as well as support for family members and caregivers. Information, education, and consultation services to community organizations and local health care agencies is also provided.

Skilled and compassionate VON professionals provide information, education, and emotional support to family caregivers. Caregiver Support groups are available virtually and in-person.

CARERS (Coaching, Advocacy, Respite, Education, Relationship, Simulation) is a program that is intended for care partners of people living with dementia that runs for 8 weekly sessions of 2 hours per session. It is a practical hands-on therapeutic group that looks at specific communication challe

Specialized service and treatment for individuals who have behaviours related to a diagnosis of dementia. Program provides service to Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN) 4 (the regions of Niagara, Brant, and Halton).
