Under City of Hamilton By-laws, the Hamilton Fire Department offers permits to sell family fireworks and allow open-air burning.
Family Fireworks Sale Permit - Permits the sale of fireworks in Hamilton. All vendors need to purchase a Family Fireworks Sales Permit from the Hamilton Fire Department to legally sell fireworks. Family fireworks may only be sold 7 days prior to, and including, the Victoria Day and Canada Day national holidays.
Open Air Burning Permit - Allows open-air burning in areas that have been designated as rural, that adheres to the Open Air Burning Guidelines. Only clean wood and brush is allowed to be burned.
Open to all. If not the property owner, written authorization needs to be provided.
Apply and pay for a Fireworks Permit and Inspection in person at any Municipal Service Centre. Fire Prevention staff will be in contact for the next steps, including a physical site inspection. Firework sales cannot take place until the permit is received.
Burn Permits can be applied for at any Municipal Service Centre. If the applicant has a copy of a permit from the previous year, bring that to apply.
