Special Supports Program

Ontario provincial program that provides health-related items to people receiving Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) funding and people on low income.

Health related benefits include but are not limited to:

  • bathroom assistive devices
  • diabetic supplies
  • hearing aids and batteries
  • hospital beds and mattresses
  • custom foot orthotics and orthopaedic footwear
  • medical taxi transportation
  • eye glasses
  • adult day programs and respite

Eligibility

Open to recipients of Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Hamilton residents on a low income who are 18 years of age or older.

Submit a request for needed items online at specialsupportsbenefits.hamilton.ca or call 905-546-2590.

Low income applicants who are not OW or ODSP recipients will need to supply the following documents:

  • ID for every person in the household
  • Last year’s Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency, or a CRA Proof of Income Statement, for every adult family member
  • A letter of assessment from a healthcare professional
